Los Angeles, CA – Little Tokyo Service Center, The Decro Group and the Korean Resource Center are jointly opening the LDK Senior Apartments, a set of two low-income senior apartments in Koreatown, and the pre-application process for prospective tenants starts on November 7th, 2015.
Koreatown is a densely populated area in Los Angeles that has had a lack of affordable housing for over 20 years. Community groups have long advocated and organized for increased funding for affordable and low-income senior apartments. Community organizations opening the LDK Apartments consider this a step forward in increasing access to affordable housing in Los Angeles.
The two apartment buildings are located at 540 S Kingsley Drive and 900 Crenshaw Boulevard, and combined they provide 65 units, with homes of various sizes ranging from 400 SF studios (up to 2 residents) to 627 SF one-bedroom units (up to 3 residents).
Qualifying applicants must have a household income that is equal to or lower than 50% of the area’s median income based on family size, and the main applicant must be over 62 years of age.
Applicants undergo a two-step application process – first a pre-application process, out of which applicants are chosen through a lottery, followed by the application process proper. For the pre-application, it is strongly recommended that applicants obtain the pre-application form online and print it to apply.
For those without access to a computer, paper pre-applications are distributed for one day only on Saturday, November 7th, 8 AM to 3 PM. at the Korean Central United Methodist Church at 420 E. 20th St, 90011 in downtown Los Angeles.
Those randomly selected to participate in the full application process will be notified in January 2016, and the apartments will open around April 2016.
Applicants can find detailed instructions and download the pre-applications starting November 7th at the following websites: ltsc.org, krcla.org/LDK, and Housing.LACounty.gov Project updates are provided on the automated information line at 323-774-1922 (dial 711 for California Relay Services)
